I'm liking this trend that Hollywood is finally acknowledging that people are still sexy, adventurous and interesting after 50 -- and that people over 50 like to see their generation in movies instead of 20-somethings. I thought this movie was a lot of fun, and the romance between Bruce Willis and Mary Louise Parker's characters was sweet without being sappy. But the most fun was seeing Willis, Malcovich, Freeman and Mirren play on the screen. What a blast!

I didn't think a movie about geriatric CIA operatives was going to be good, except you have some of the greatest actors of our time in this movie. RED is short for, "Retired, Extremely Dangerous"...and these old timers are definitely deadly. This movie seems like the natural progression from the Die Hard franchise...he's still the same ballsy jerk, but finely aged and wiser! Helen Mirren was shockingly fantastic...classy yet butch; something about this woman with a sniper rifle in her hands makes her soooo sexy! Mary Louise-Parker was utterly believable as the sad and pathetic government employee. But sadly, Morgan Freeman was dismissible...I think he could have been better utilized. But the man who truly made Red was John Malkovich...what an utterly fantastical character! Holy cow...he was AWESOME! His facial expressions, his mannerisms, his comedic timing...all perfection!!! The plot was a bit thin and predictable...but nonetheless a very enjoyable time. Definitely worth it!

Let me start by saying that I did enjoy this movie. It was a fun ride, despite a slight lull in the middle, and it generated some legitimate laughs from me (as opposed to those laughs that you force in order to fool yourself into thinking you got your money's worth out of a movie). The action scenes, though a tad more spread out than I was hoping, were pretty cool as well. However, I couldn't help but feel like the story was too cliché to make this movie an excellent one. The worst part is that the things that made this movie unique - John Malkovich's character, for one - felt like they were off to the side and not too important. Overall, I would tell friends that they might want to wait for the DVD for this one. Luckily, I only had to pay $5 for my ticket thanks to an online deal, or else I would have probably been more annoyed with the mediocrity of this movie.

This movie was good because it didn't take itself so seriously. It was very clear when there was a joke and when it was "seriously trying to progress the story." However, the best part is, even though these two things were clearly delineated, the lightheartedness and the seriousness intertwined very well together. It had good action sequences, and the actors were perfect for the roles. I've suggested that many people go see this movie. Adults and adolescents, alike, will enjoy this movie.
