An attempt to squeeze the epic-scale narrative of something like Goodfellas into a smaller frame at a lower budget and with admittedly weaker script, Kill the Irishman comes off as a little clumsy and technically mediocre at times (I'm sure the fillmakers were struggling with budget and actor's schedules), but it uses it's INCREDIBLE cast well. Each veteran character actor (Walken, D'Onofrio, Bob Gunton, Robert Davi) is given moments to shine, and shining brightest among the cast is its star, Ray Stevenson, who I've been hoping would take Hollywood by storm for years. He's such a big lug, but with fierce intelligence behind the eyes and such range that he could act as introspective tough guys for years and we would never be tired of him. The movie is worth seeing alone for Stevenson's live-wire title performance as Danny "The Irishman" Greene. Recommended for fans of the gangster genre, the HBO series Rome (starring Stevenson), or any stories of blue-collar hard-asses on the rise.
