Storyline:
Eddie is a New York limo driver and a fanatical follower of the New York Knicks professional basketball team. The team is struggling with a mediocre record when, in mid-season, "Wild Bill" Burgess, the new owner, as a public relations gimmick, stages an 'honorary coach' contest, which Eddie wins. The fans love it, so "Wild Bill" fires the coach and hires her. She takes the bunch of overpaid prima donnas that make up the team and turns them around. But the owner hopes to move the team, now the darling of the New York fans, to St. Louis. He may OWN the team, but it BELONGS to the city and the fans!

It really is very interesting to see how his comedy evolved and came to be. It's is better if he shows up after the movie for a Q&A!

Funny Sad Documentary about Eddie
dkarp
As a relatively new fan of Eddie, I found the whole experience captivating. The documentary was funny and touching. His devotion to his Mom is truly beautiful. For any fan of Eddie, this is a must see. For anyone who is not yet a fan, this is a wonderful introduction to his comedy and an insight into his life. And Eddie was so gracious during the Q&A afterword, handling all of the many odd quesitons with sincerity and grace. We drove from Albany to see the midnight showing and didn't arrive back home until 7 AM the next morning. But both my husband and I felt it was well worth the trip!

This film is a fascinating portrait of a seriously driven man. For fans, it's a lovely peek into the brilliant comedian/actor who inspires a rabid love and adoration that I suspect many other comedians do not enjoy. Eddie is a rock star among comedians, a position he revels in, although it sometimes seems that as much as he has worked desperately hard for it, it's one he can't let completely in to his heart. He's driven by the need for the love of his late mother, and although he has the love of millions of fans who travel long distances time and again, who quote him religiously, and who would do just about anything for him, he seems not to truly believe & accept that. Perhaps, having lost his mother so young, he's too afraid to accept love again for fear of losing it again. But for anyone who is curious about this comedy phenomenon, this film is a great way to become familiar with who he is and where he's come from. Wonderful early footage through his prep for the Sexie tour.

I'm not sure how moviegoers who are not familiar with Eddie's work will view this movie, but for anyone who has enjoyed his work, live or on DVD, this movie is a must. A look inside the mind and heart of the most brilliant comic of our, or any, time. Lots of archival footage of his early work, from street entertainer, through failed stand-up routines, and ultimately to his arrival as a comic phenomenon. Lots of archival footage of his impressions of life from infancy to adulthood, including candid discussion of the heartbreak of losing his mother when he was a young boy. A very human and unfiltered glimpse at the origins of a genius.
