While this is a great representation of a studio ghibli film, I will not lie and say it is my favorite. Personally, that honor is reserved for Howl's Moving Castle with a close runner-up being held up by Porco Russo. I will admit that I am not in any way in the know about the Tales of Earthesea books or other versions of the franchise. The movie states with an introduction that leads to the titles and then to the start of the story. There is little information given and it seems that there could be an entire movie between this and the story itself. After this, as is usual with ghibli we are immersed in a complex world and a story that has much more below the surface. The story progresses and we learn of the battle of those who live and those who fear death. The story culminates with the classic battle of good vs. evil/ This is the first go of the younger Goro Miyazaki in directing a studio Ghibli film, and I think he has done his studio and namesake proud.

It's from Ghibli.

Good first attempt. It wasn't all that gripping but it was good.
