VISUALLY BEAUTIFUL! GREAT HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The movie has a great premise, and in itself it mashes-up like 5 genres, but overall it would be better if it just ditched the incestuous romantic story, and focused more on the banking aspects and the family saga, and the chinese revolution.

Beautiful cinematography, interesting story of heart vs duty in a time of strict gender and class roles, poverty and war. Well acted and well done. Romance, heartbreak, love, death and war: something for everyone. One you would want to see on the big cinema screen.

Both result and effort made this movie the how bad it Is today

I am not one to normally watch a subtitled film. My partner and I enjoy very different types of films. I suggested we go see this, as I found the premise of the movie interesting and knew Mathew would too. I fell in love with this movie, the interweaving stories of love and family legacy, along with anger and resentment were very well told. Mathew loved the cinematography and the historical nature of the movie, I loved the story. I found my self crying at a few different spots in the film. I would recommend this film to anyone who loves a gripping and engaging film. I read more about this film after I watched it. I learned this is Christina Yao's first film as director. Congratulations on the making of a most beautiful film Ms. Yao
