...Do we really need another Super-hero/Action Movie? I'm probably the only person in America who was disappointed with this Filck. Other than the first scenes with Smaug, the movie is a total departure from both the content and the spirit of J.R.R. Tolkien's work; which was about cleverness, intelligence, and performing above one's abilities; not a thinly disguised martial arts fest. Yes there is a lot of action in the book; but there is much, much, more Cleverness/Intelligence. The screenwriters also screwed up the timelines of the happenings that are in the back-story of the Hobbit (i.e. outside of the specific book). And, yes, I know we need to add female characters to the all-male fest that is The Hobbit (novel); but the Elf/Dwarf 'romance' that was concocted for this movie was sappy and even stupid. To those who haven't read the book(s) (including the appendices in 'The Return of the King'); enjoy yet another Martial Arts/Superhero movie...And, everybody, Smaug was awesome

While not completely true to the book the Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug is an awesome watch! Definately worth watching while its in theatres! There is some embelishment on some parts for the purposes of the movie but it doesn't take away from the movie itself :)

Smaug the Magnificent was amazing and a must see in 3d or IMAX, if you're into that. Best. Dragon. Ever. Period. Story lines are more interesting and significant to the realm. Character development was MUCH improved over Unexpected Journey (UJ). Although i will say I personally loved UJ. I thought it had a nice flow and vibe for the amount of new characters presented at once. 'Smaug' does show more distinct personalities of the Dwarves though and really nailed each character..giving some a little more alone time on screen helped a lot to distinguish them. Azog and Bolg are two absolute BEAST. I can't help but love the Evil story line, which LOTR didn't have too much of (switched from hobbits, to heroes, to gandalf..etc) Never really following orcs with strong screen presence for too long. Bottom line. This movie is undoubtedly a 10/10 for me and There and Back Again has the potential to be better or equal to LOTR..as I believe this movie was equally amazing.
