Never has the most horrific time in modern history been portrayed so intensely. It'a a sma;; movie with a large impact. I'm sure that this story was just the tip of the iceberg as to "man's inhumanity to man". This is the saddest and most riveting historical drama that I've seen since "Schindler's List". There wasn't a dry eye in the house with this movie. Even tho the Holocaust was terrible, slavery was unimaginably WORSE! But the human spirit perseveres and that is what makes this movie shine. Chiwetol Eljifor is certainly due an Oscar nod as well as the movie as a whole. The south was beautifully accurate and portrayed in it's depiction of plantation life during slavery/ I would definitely recommend this movie for everyone over the age of 13 and plan on seeing it again! Great job directing by Steve McQueen!

Amazing film. True to the book. The cinemaphotography added so much to a story that I will always remember....unlike the actor's name who played the starring role. Whatever his name is, this is acting at its finest. This is the first time I've ever answered a Fandango inquiry about a movie I've seen. Maybe the last(!). But I just couldn't resist, as 12 Years A Slave will, no doubt, become a classic. Oh...If you have a weak stomach, just turn your head during the tough parts. Do not let that stand in your way!

It is difficult to explain all of my feelings after seeing this wonderful film. An incredible story that is expertly told with top-notch performances by the talented actors. Some people in the audience sat quietly as the closing credits rolled, and some wept. I highly, highly recommend this film. The best film about slavery and American history that I have seen in years.

The director could of chosen to make this movie fit into mainstream and not tell it with the graphics. However, he decided to peer into the evils of the times and the duality of man to present this movie and allow Solomon to live on.
