Storyline:
Dr. Adrian Helmsley, part of a worldwide geophysical team investigating the effect on the earth of radiation from unprecedented solar storms, learns that the earth's core is heating up. He warns U.S. President Thomas Wilson that the crust of the earth is becoming unstable and that without proper preparations for saving a fraction of the world's population, the entire race is doomed. Meanwhile, writer Jackson Curtis stumbles on the same information. While the world's leaders race to build "arks" to escape the impending cataclysm, Curtis struggles to find a way to save his family. Meanwhile, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes of unprecedented strength wreak havoc around the world.

to all that are getting upset by the name and what the movie is about you are being stupid and idiotic. its a movie and meant for entertainment and for a little scare. Nothing else, the world is not going to end in 2012 and if you are getting all worked up about that then you are even dumber than i thought. Nobody died in Y2K and no one is going to die in 2012 its a movie get over it!

Some people are slamming this movie because it has a bit of humor. But that's a good thing. Nobody wants chaos and destruction for two hours. There are moments when you want to relax the edge a bit. That is what horror films do. Shock for twenty minutes than give you a quick laugh. Only this is an action movie. But the formula works anyway.
Another aspect of the film that works is the ability to show how awful some people would be to others if this were to occur and the kind decent people are also reflected. Great action and well worth the hype and the wait.
