The previous posters that didn't like it obviously don't like psychological thrillers. It's no wonder Hollywood keeps pumping out swill; it's because when an original movie like this does come out, most people are too vapid and dimwitted to appreciate it (based on the reviews here). Bug is a great Burroughs-esque head-trip into paranoia and insanity. Fans of Hitchcock, Cronenberg and Lynch movies should like it.

Honestly, I went into the theater expecting something along the lines of a zombie infection movie. So of course, I was slightly disappointed with the first two acts of the movie. However, the third act made me appreciate the movie as a whole. I began to realize that the real monster isn't the bug. It's the paranoia that stems from chronic loneliness. This is why I think Bug really functions as a solid piece. It's very rare when a horror movie bothers to explore its characters as much as it does in Bug. Ashlie Judd and Micheal Shannon are absolutely dynamic in their roles. In fact, the two deserve Oscar nominations at the very least. Of course, they're not going to since Bug is still considered horror movie rather than a touching piece which it is. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't really perceive the genius since they're looking for cheap thrills and mindless entertainment as opposed to a stilted, horrifying tale about the extremes of paranoia.

BUG is a brilliant psychological thriller that has been unfortunately marketed as a bloody horror movie. There is some blood and there are plenty of uncomfortable moments, but BUG is so much deeper than a horror movie that most dissatisfied audience members I encountered simply weren't prepared for a movie of this caliber. The performances by Judd, Shannon, and Connick Jr. were exhilarating and claustrophobic. Even in a large cinema, this movie plays on a small, intimate scale that is thrilling for the audience. The characters rope you into their journey, and their pain becomes yours. The laughs within are dark and seem completely intentional (also misunderstood by some audience members). By the end, it should be clear that BUG is a story about two misfits with a profound need to connect - and through their rising paranoia, they make that human connection. As long as you don't go expecting a horror blockbuster, BUG will sting you with its honesty and its humanity.

I saw the play in New York a couple of years ago and the film as well. It may not be for everyone, but the acting is superb. Just brilliant. Michael Shannon, who originated the role on the stage, delivers one of the most impressive performances I have ever seen and who knew Ashley Judd could go to such places!?!?!? Go see it. You will be amazed.

Warning! This movie sucks! After the first hour of no action, I kept telling myself to be patient... that it might be worth it... but the movie never got better. NO GORE!! SUPER CHEESE!! The ending sucked as much as the acting. I would never recommend this movie to anyone. It had to be the worst movie I've seen in the theatre EVER!!! I total waste of time! Don't even rent it!!
