Storyline:
The cynical and skeptical writer Mike Enslin writes books evaluating supernatural phenomena in hotels, graveyards and other haunted places, usually debunking the mystery. While writing his latest book, he travels from Los Angeles to New York to spend one night in the Dolphin Hotel's posessed room 1408, which is permanently unavailable for guests. The reluctant manager Mr. Gerald Olin objects to his request and offers an upgrade, expensive booze and finally relates the death of more than fifty guests over decades in the cursed room. However Mike threatens Mr. Olin, promising to sue the hotel, and is finally allowed to check into the room. Later in the night, he finds that guests of room 1408, once they have checked in, might never leave the room alive. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

1408 had some good ideas behind it. With many pros and few cons, the thrill factor kepted surging throughout the film. John Cusack was nothing less than perfect for the role and carried the story through its many twist and turns, not that such a provocative story needed carring. to see how long this movie is before veiwing is to kill your enthusiasm to veiw it. Some movies with small ideas and long run times are slow and shallow, but not this on, it floats you through two hours and thirtyfour minutes of a jagged past and a delightfully twisted ending. PS please click where it says my rating was helpful..because most reviewers havent even seen the movie.

This is a great movie. An ACTUAL horror. Not some sick gore that's just going to make you cringe. A horror movie should scare the h*ll out of you! This movie makes me hungry for more I can't get enough horror. The last movie I saw that almost makes me feel the way about this one was House on Haunted Hill. My hair stood on end!

The film is good-- lots of scares and an interesting concept. The short story by Stephen King was much better. Had they successfully kept the feel of the original story, the film would have transcended from a good horror movie to what would have been considered a work of art. Still, it's worth a watch.
