Storyline:
Brad and Kate have been together three years, in love, having fun, doing all sorts of things together with no intention of marriage or children. Christmas morning, they're on their way to Fiji, having told their two sets of divorced parents that they're off to do charity work. Through a fluke, they have no choice but to visit each of their four idiosyncratic parents. As the day progresses, Brad and Kate remember growing up, each learns more about the other, and Kate realizes that her life may not be as good as it could be. Do they know each other well enough to weather the storms families bring?

MOVIES REVIEWER

Last night, I attended the advance press premiere of this contrived insipid self-absorbed short 82-minute SUPERFICIAL movie screen-written by FOUR persons - which is usually a serious problematic red flag regarding the plot/movie especially for comedies. Despite the Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn's star-billings and talented well-known cast(Kristin Chenoweth, Mary Steenburgen, Jon Voight, Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Tim McGraw, Dwight Yoakam, Jon Favreau), FOUR CHRISTMASES is just another lack-luster Hollywood comedy run-of-the-mill production - which begs the question as to why this well-known cast so desperately signed onto such a BLAH project. Granted, there were some sprinklings of funny moments but after awhile even the barf jokes get a little tired. I am glad I did not waste money on such a droll movie. VERDICT: Do you wish to pay $20 for two admissions plus $15-20 for concessions - total of $35-$40 hard-earned money on a junk movie? SKIP IT. A rental.

I have never laughed so much at a Christmas movie!! It was funny and entertaining.

This is a light holiday movie with some dark spots. There are some funny moments, and just the cast is enough to pull it through. But there are some genuinely disheartening elements as well, and if you have a child who still believes in Santa, don't take them to this movie, as that secret is revealed rather ungracefully in one scene. It's not a great movie, but it's okay after perhaps a day of shopping. NOT for children, really.

I was very much looking forward to this movie, partly because of the diverse cast (Reese, Vince, Mary Steenburgen, Sissy Spacek, Robert Duvall, Tim McGraw, Dwight Yokam) and partly because the premise seemed genuinely funny. (Four Christmases in one day after getting caught trying to go to Figi instead of to the family's houses) Unfortunately, none of the humor that I expected actually came about in this movie. The funniest parts were the sight gags in the trailers, and the rest of the movie seemed to be "pasted" around those sight gags, hoping to make them long enough to be a funny movie. There was lots of vulgar language, some that added to the humor and some that just felt gratuitous. This could definitely have been a hilarious movie, and the performances by the main characters were certainly solid enough (although Vince was surprisingly unsympathetic in this one) But the real stories never got off the ground, and the end brought us back full circle. Not very satisfying.
