Storyline:
It's San Francisco in 1957, and an American masterpiece is put on trial. Howl, the film, recounts this dark moment using three interwoven threads: the tumultuous life events that led a young Allen Ginsberg to find his true voice as an artist, society's reaction (the obscenity trial), and animation that echoes the poem's surreal style. All three coalesce in hybrid that dramatizes the birth of a counterculture.

Excellent film about the writing of the famous poem and the immediate impact on its times vis a vis the obscenity trial relating to its publication. James Franco does a remarkable transformation. If you love the poem, you will love this film. If you know of the poem, but don't know it well, a great intro.

Unique film. Highly recommend it. James Franco was very good and the animation was really great and tracked the poem so well. You will understand Allen Ginsberg very well after seeing this film , to say nothing of his epic work Howl.
