Eerie timing with current events and unresolved shooting of African American teen in Florida, Trayvon Martin. I'm intrigued as to how Hollywood or how anyone will present this issue cinematically.

To Be Redeemed is the title of the song at the end of Deadline, and it sums up this wonderful movie perfectly. Deadline is about the investigation of a decades old civil rights murder that has torn apart a small Southern town.But by the time reporters Matt (Steve Talley) and Bullock (Eric Roberts) are done. wrong has been made right, justice has come to town and hope has been restored. It was a long time coming, but the truth has finally come out and a light has been shined on the darkest of places. This is a powerful movie. I saw it at a premiere screening and the writer and director were there with some of the actors. The director said that they had tested the movie and asked people what movies Deadline reminded them of. He asked us to guess and someone said To Kill a Mockingbird, and he said that was the #1 answer. I can see why. Deadline is a movie that makes you think about your own biases and makes you want to be a better person. Now that's what I call a great movie!

This is a classic 'Who Dun it?" kind of murder-mystery but set in an era of looking back upon earlier more racist motives that catch up w/you if you don't let the whole truth be known. The music is right-on, the scenes from Nashville, TN mimic the pretend town of Amos, AL, and the several sub-plots keep one's attention thru-out the flick. The 2 reporters who uncover an unvestigated murder are great as partners together (one young & trying to be slick, the veteran savvy and a tad ammo-heavy). Justice is finally served in the end and even a few hearts are changed along the way. The PG-13 rating makes it suitable for kids who need to realize what just 20 yrs. ago was like in the Deep South.

The best part about seeing this as a Nashville Area Resident is that it was made here and you get to recognize stuff. You may even see someone you know in the background. The story is an unfortuneately true story. The best part is that justice prevails !! It's important to support movies like this cuz art still exists in film despite corporate attempts to shove another SpiderMan movie to the front of the line.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film & encourage everyone to see it! It definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. Eric Roberts & Steve Talley gave amazing performances & the story line was well written. Take the time to see it - great film for 2012!
