As a fan of the play, I was very excited to see "The Woman in Black", and I have to say that, while the movie doesn't work quite as well as the play does, it's still good scary fun. There's lots of creepy atmosphere, some good jump out of your seat moments and excellent performances. I found it refreshing to see a horror film where you didn't have to listen to the lead actor "pant in terror" for the whole of the movie. Daniel Radcliffe did an excellent job and managed to avoid the acting cliches that so many actors fall into with this genre. His was a calm, measured performance that made all the creepy stuff that much more upsetting because you weren't being spoon-fed the emotions for each scene by his performance. You got to discover how scared you were for yourself. Nice. I would have liked a little more dialoge and the pacing was a little slow, but other than that I thought the film was great. Definitely worth paying to see the film in the theater. Go see it! :)

The woman is black was everything I expected. Going in i knew this was going to be a scary one. great work by the director to really get the blood pumpin. Alot of jumpy scenes that will make ur heart skip. radcliff really plays this part well although not much interaction with other actors. i think this was a great film for him to start his career "post potter" era. anyways, if your with a date or just want to be scared, woman is black is the movie for you. This is definitely a GO movie!

I knew this movie was gonna be scary, but i didnt know it would be THAT scary. It keeps you in a state of tension for the whole movie, and when something scary does happen, your body explodes! Its been a while since i've seen a movie like this and i was very pleasanty surprised. It scared my boyfriend!!

THE WOMAN IN BLACK is a Victorian AMITYVILLE HORROR meets WINTER'S BONE meets POLTERGEIST. Exquisite costumes, sets, and cinematography shot amid Sleepy Hollowesque colors and lighting set the spooky tone for Daniel Radcliffe's eerie pursuit as a young lawyer searching for clues in an old decrepit English seaside mansion creaking with the memories of its tragically deceased family members. This artistic suspense thriller has over a dozen hearty heart stoppers due, in part, to the Director?s skillful peripheral attention to storytelling detail. Kudos to the film?s frightfully sadistic Sound Engineer who knows a good adrenaline rush when he hears one. This is a pee-in-your-pants movie. Parents, although this film has no sex, nudity, or profanity, there are images of suicide and the demise of children. Also, your kids will have nightmares if they sleep within a ghost?s reach of their favorite toy box or doll house. Guys, great date-clutching movie! (reviewed by Johnny Hollywood)

This is a remake of a well liked 1989 TV movie from the U.K., although the material has been reworked. Where the original was a simple ghost story this version has a more elaborate backstory for its ghost and in this version she only kills children (shades of the old Mario Bava movie Kill Baby Kill). As a ghost story this works pretty well and offers some creepy moments and jolts, even if it seems to be trying a little to hard with all the shock cuts. My only issue with the movie really is with the ending. The filmmakers tried to come up with something a little less dark than in the original version and what they came up with feels mushy and sentimental, not the emotions you generally strive for in a scary movie. I didn't think the ending worked but, to be fair, a lot of the young women in the audience seemed to be moved by it. This is worth seeing if you like ghost stories (or star Danielle Radcliffe) but it could have been better.
