I remember the Iranian Hostage Crisis and never knew the truth until I saw this film about how 6 of the American workers at the embassy actually got out of Iran. Afleck does a masterful job of story telling acting and directing.

What a treat --- great stars, great acting, and, what a story (and it was based on a true one). If you see this movie, make sure to watch the credits at the end.....very interesting. Ben A. did a wonderful job of acting and directing this one!

Saw the movie this afternoon, with no real expectations of what I was getting into, and it is absolutely exceptional - you're glued to the seat right from the very first minute. Really one of the best movies I've seen in recent years. Very engaging on every level.

This is history fictionalized at its finest. The setting is Iran after the fall of the Shah in the early 1980s. Six american civil servants who work in the embassy get stuck in that country and hide out at the Canadian embassy. Enter Affleck's character, a CIA agent who specializes in extractions, and there isn't a dull moment from there. This movie is well-acted and well thought out. One of the characters jokingly says that anyone can be a director, but this is clearly the work of a masterful director. I enjoyed it and I think most people will. This is, of course, an intense film about a country at war, so there's plenty of violence and random shootings, along with public hangings. It's violent and not for everyone, but it worked for me and I highly recommend it.

Many of us remember the sketchy snippets provided by our television news journalists - as we waited and watched, for tales of the six, but more for word of the remaining hostages. This, as I recall, was the first major international incident, in which Canada was admittedly a major player! Perhaps the fact that Mr. Ken Taylor is a fellow Albertan, with an already firmly established household name in the province, made the situation more firmly etched in our minds and hearts. "Argo," provides insight and depth into the terror but also the humanity of all ethnicities, through the recently released twist in plot. The political espionage is likely to be lost on the under 12 group. The cast, producers, directors and crew did an inspiring job of bringing the whole of it to us with unexpected turns, including bursts of comedy. Ben Affleck's performance was unparalleled, carrying an indelible role that may come to be one of the finest of classics! Stay for the credits!
