i cant seem to get a picture on my screen when i want to watch a movie on-line, is there a codec i need to download?

Lawless is a well made film with solid acting, but its story is typical and as a result you'll leave the theater feeling like you've seen this movie before or heard it a various stories. Tom Hardy and Shia LaBouf turn in fine performances, but Guy Pierce's character, who is supposed to be uber-menacing, is basically a run-of-the-mill bad-guy with few surprises. If you've not seen the film this director (John Hillcoat) made in 2005, "The Proposition", I would rent that instead of seeing this. That film is dark and hauntingly beautiful. Whereas Nick Cave and Warren Ellis' scores for both "The Proposition" and "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" were again, hauntingly beautiful, the music for this film lacks the aching-eloquence that those two films possessed. Did I like this film? I did. Would I see it again? I would not due to its lack of "bite".

We liked the movie a lot. There were no bad performances-great acting and casting. Guy Pearce is the quintessential smarmy bad guy. Jessica Chastain and Mia W. were especially beautiful and all the male leads were first rate. The plot (based on a book & apparently a "true story" as they say) was gripping. If I don't have to check my iphone for the time, I know I'm enjoying a movie. Beautifully filmed in a smoky, gloomy, prohibition-era style. This is appropriately rated R because of the violence. This is not a good movie for kids. Yes, there is foul language a little nudity, but it's the violence that's very graphic. Heed the rating for this reason.

The story is new. The subject isn't. Still, this film is expensively produced, well written and executed by some really great onscreen talent that do an excellent job of bringing it all together. I found the film engaging and thoroughly entertaining.. It's worth its ticket price. See it. You won't be disappointed.

"Lawless" is the first film out the gate this pre-awards season and I suspect it's because it's missing that "it" factor that really gives movies that "remember me" feeling. Don't misunderstand me, I think this is a really well-done movie with seemingly nothing that I can knock. Tom Hardy's stock continues to rise, Shia reminds you why he's so got the weight of a younger, new generation of actors on his shoulders and Jessica Chastain's name will be remembered in those households that haven't yet taken notice. Guy Pearce's performance probably takes the cake, though. I really wanted him to die, even by my own hand if I had the opportunity. He may continue to be a big name, but I feel like he is remarkably underutilized in Hollywood. Story, character development and action scenes are proportioned but, as I said, it never digs in like a tick in the Virginia woods. I would not be surprised if many others rate this higher than me but despite the actor's best efforts it's only "really good."
