Storyline:
In the 1930s, an elderly Tonto tells a young boy the tale of John Reid, the Lone Ranger. An idealistic lawyer, he rides with his brother and fellow Texas Rangers in pursuit of the notorious Butch Cavendish. Ambushed by the outlaw and left for dead, John Reid is rescued by the renegade Comanche, Tonto, at the insistence of a mysterious white horse and offers to help him to bring Cavendish to justice. Becoming a reluctant masked rider with a seemingly incomprehensible partner, Reid pursues the criminal against all obstacles. However, John and Tonto learn that Cavendish is only part of a far greater injustice and the pair must fight it in an adventure that would make them a legend.

The movie is a bit long but it was worth wait to get to the last 30 minutes. From that point on, it was super outstanding, especially for those of us old enough to remember the good old days!

The Lone Ranger is a thoroughly modern take on a classic western. The cinematography is excellent and does a great job of capturing the natural beauty of the settings.
While not an exceptional movie, The Lone Ranger is a fun watch. The critics were overly harsh on this one. Depp and Silver steal the show. Armie fills out his role nicely.
The plot of this movie is very predictable. There is also a lot of violence and death (keep that in mind if you plan on bringing younger kids). The biggest issue has to do with how the races are presented. The blacks are servants, the Chinese are exploited, and the movie plays on the plight of the "Indians." There isn't much love for the "white man" in The Lone Ranger.
All in all, The Lone Ranger does an old franchise justice.
There's a scene towards the end of the credits of Tonto walking through the desert that isn't worth sticking around for.

I read a few reviews from Critics and decided to go see The Lone Ranger anyway. This was a great decision... this film didn't disappoint me. Every part was perfectly cast. Armie Hammer impressed me by managing NOT to be overshadowed by Johnny Depp. His Lone Ranger's journey from idealist to realist without losing his good hearted optimism was one of the best things about the movie. And Johnny Depp's Tonto was dignified, funny and tragic. Seeing these two men slowly become friends and partners is what gives this movie so much heart. I thought the framing device (Tonto telling the story to the kid in 1933) was brilliant. The music was perfect... my dad had recordings of the Lone Ranger radio serials from his childhood in the 1930s and I grew up listening to those with him. In this film, when the Lone Ranger gallops off on Silver to the William Tell Overture, it brought tears to my eyes.
