Storyline:
Cecil Gaines was a sharecropper's son who grew up in the 1920s as a domestic servant for the white family who casually destroyed his. Eventually striking out on his own, Cecil becomes a hotel valet of such efficiency and discreteness in the 1950s that he becomes a butler in the White House itself. There, Cecil would serve numerous US Presidents over the decades as a passive witness of history with the American Civil Rights Movement gaining momentum even as his family has troubles of its own. As his wife, Gloria, struggles with her addictions and his defiant eldest son, Louis, strives for a just world, Cecil must decide whether he should take action in his own way.

I'm a white, 20-something girl (race shouldn't matter, but yes it still does) and cannot remember the last time I was so moved by a movie. The entire theater (teens to grandparents, white to black, Repubs to Dems) was clapping wildly when the credits rolled. There is something for EVERYONE in this movie (Except your 5 year old. Leave them at home.): Raunchy humor for the Judd Apatow movie goers, Forest Gumpian road trip from a 1920s cotton plantation to the Obama election for the history buffs, Eisenhower/JFK/LBJ/Nixon/LBJ for the politicos, and Oprah for everyone. Note: THERE IS NO OPRAH SEX SCENE. (If you were worried/looking forward to it.) But you will see her get sexy, slap several people, battle alcoholism, and disco dance in front on the TV in a onesie. She was fantastic! You'll Love "The Butler" If You Thought: "42" was too cheesy. "Lincoln" was too boring or too whitewashed. "Django" was too violent. Oprah or Lenny Kravitz couldn't act.

PSA: Bring a tissue! The Butler is enthralling. Lee Daniel brings this story to life with an exceptional touch. The visuals, acting, and screenwriting are all amazing. After all of these years, Oprah shows that she can still hold her own on the big screen. I have to say that she stole the show. So as I don't ruin the movie for anyone, I encourage everyone that watches the movie to do a little research after. The Butler takes a LOT of liberties with the true story of Eugene Allen. It's about time for an Oscar worthy movie to rear its head this year. Fact or fiction, Lee Daniels' The Butler is a must go for anyone looking for a good story that shows how far our country has come. Oh yeah, about that tissue...you might need more than one... There's nothing during or after the credits. If you like my reviews, add me as a fan. I'll add you back!

The movies was very touching and hearting breaken! This was a great movies that had so many meaning in it. Telling the true about what our partents had to go through in order to making better for use to live. Things has come along way. Thanks to all the peoples and family's that had lost their lives to make it better for others!

Took me back! to the days of presidencies and civil rights struggle in a beautiful, sentimental, warm and familiar, yet revealing way. All my favorite actors and actresses did bang up jobs--Forest Whittaker, Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack,Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Terrence Howard, Lenny Kravitz, and more. Way better than The HELP which I refused to see on principle. This depicts us in subservient roles with dignity and quiet revolutionary spirit that won action without jail sentence and bloodshed in that instance (Gaines getting the salaries and benefits increased for blacks in White House).
