Storyline:
Captain Phillips is a multi-layered examination of the 2009 hijacking of the U.S. container ship Maersk Alabama by a crew of Somali pirates. It is - through director Paul Greengrass's distinctive lens - simultaneously a pulse-pounding thriller, and a complex portrait of the myriad effects of globalization. The film focuses on the relationship between the Alabama's commanding officer, Captain Richard Phillips (two time Academy Award®-winner Tom Hanks), and the Somali pirate captain, Muse (Barkhad Abdi), who takes him hostage. Phillips and Muse are set on an unstoppable collision course when Muse and his crew target Phillips' unarmed ship; in the ensuing standoff, 145 miles off the Somali coast, both men will find themselves at the mercy of forces beyond their control.

Really good movie, the end will keep you on the edge of your seat. The acting is top notch across the board. Not really a movie for kids do to violence..

Captain Phillips is one of those rare movies where no attention to detail was spared. The story is straight forward, with minimal embellishments.
Based on a true story, Captain Phillips brings to life the high stakes "business" of piracy that played out on Maersk Alabama in 2009. Tom Hanks wonderfully portrays the real life Captain Richard "Irish" Phillips. Newcomer, Barkhad Abdi, masterfully embodies a villain we can both hate and sympathize with at the same time.
Captain Phillips is well acted, well shot, and well scored. It doesn't attempt to be anything other than the harrowing true life story that it is.
Whether you are familiar with the details of this event, or you've never heard of Captain Richard Phillips, this movie will entertain and enthrall.

One of the best movies I have seen this year. The actors/special effects were terrific. Based on a true story, it gave us more insight on what really happens in these dangerous times.

One of top 10 films I've seen in my life. Yes, that good. I felt like I was on the boat with them from start to finish, it was so very real. Superb direction, timing, close ups, music, silence. Outstanding acting by Tom Hanks and amazingly by unknown actors who played the pirates...heart pounding impact. Edge of your seat start to finish. Fantastically made film.

Tom Hanks was amazing and his cast was wonderful.
Left realizing that the government would expend any amount of energy to retrieve Captain Phillips; however, there would be a line that couldn't be crossed for the sake of the many.
Made you feel proud of our military, Captain Phillips support of his men, their support of him and what we are capable of doing under such stress.
I thought that it was well done, music was superb. Liked that Captain Phillips was portrayed as human, not an invisible superhero comic book man.
