Slow, reflective, imagistic sci-fi. The kind of movie a handful of the audience walks out on and another half wants the two hours of their life back. But if you enjoy experimental film, scenes with no resolution or clear motivation, well filmed with a disturbingly good sound track, then this is worth seeing.

Having read the book upon which Under the Skin is based, I was curious to see how the film adaptation would tackle some of the most challenging visual aspects; those looking for a true-to-the-source depiction will be disappointed. However, in honoring the spirit of the text, the director has made some haunting imagistic choices and I believe, succeeded in elevating the primary themes while creating a film that is beautifully disturbing and fodder for contemplation.

This was one of the strangest films I've seen in a long time--a complete waste of time and money--at least for me. However, if are absolutely thrilled by Scarlet J. and do not want to hear her talk (hardly), but you want to see her as a female alien who drives around Scotland picking up pathetic loser men, who are looking for action but end up walking into oil and dying "artistically," and an alien motor cycle man who follows the female alien around and cleans up her mess. Then consider it. Also, if you want to hear weird piercing music and film shots that you can see at MOMA--but you want to see extended versions of weird post whatever art images in film, then go. Excuse the run on sentences, but this review expresses what I experienced and I should have RUN out of the theatre to get my money back. Utter disappointment. I would not recommend this film to anyone but an esoteric, film school devotee. Go see Hitchcock--that's much better!

It did remind me of the Man Who Fell to Earth though it has a slightly different angle. It was very well done and I liked it a lot but not as new in both content and the way in which it was done as the critics have labeled the film. Also it is not at all difficult to follow if you do not look beyond what you see although you might with any story have to read between the lines. I am surprised people cannot follow it or quite make out what it is about. Pretty clear to me. A clue humanity has it good side butÂ…

Staggering Film! Stunning images! Expresses who we are as humans and then some. The beginning sequences of images are mysterious and suspensfull. The transition of her character pins on a scene when she asks "Have you ever touched someone" is what the movie rests on, sensitive and profound. From then on, Scarlett Johanssen's character shifts,her relationship to the earth shifts and who we are as humans when confronted with the other is revealed. This is a film that will surely get under YOUR skin! A must go for those who want to see art film making at its best.
