to your wish list?
Storyline:
Everyone thinks of it as a harmless lightning storm. When Dave Drayton notices a strange mist on the lake, he thinks nothing of it. When he, his son, Billy Drayton, and his neighbor Brent Norton travel to the supermarket, the unthinkable happens. On their way to the market, they see the army, firefighters, and the police heading toward the mist. When he sees this Brent mentions something about "Project Arrowhead", a secret military project that no one knows about. As they are shopping, they see three soldiers walk in, pick up a few things, then head toward the mist. All eighty of the store's shoppers have no clue what is going on until an old man runs in the market with a bloody nose and declares "Something in the mist!" He tells them to close the door. About five seconds after they close the door, the entire store shakes, as though it has been lifted several feet above the ground...

I have been a fan of this particular King story since I first read it over 20 years ago. I have been following the making of this film for months now through a great site called aint it cool news. The things that Moriarty (the journalist on these stories) was reporting about not only the monsters of the story, but the feel that Frank was going for, I got chills from the start.
After seeing it now I have to say that they hit it out of the ball park, but just barely because of a few things they changed. Most notably a scene in which an army guy is basically sacrificed and no one does anything about it when they could have; and the ending, which is the probably the bravest, but most f##ked-up endings I've seen in a while. Just not cool.
The CGI is pretty middle of the road, but in a few places (the pharmacy scene) it really shines with some really unique interpretations of the monsters.
If you're a fan of the story, you won't be disappointed. If not, still might like it.

It is a horror film complete with great monsters, but wait, it is so much more. Darabont has done it again. He takes you on a ride to a fantastic world but there is more to his storytelling than what you see on the surface. I was scared, I jumped in my seat, and yes- I cheered. This movie is intelligent, full of suspense, and very satisfying. You are taken on a journey that has a huge payoff in the end. This will surprise even the most seasoned King reader.
The script is superb- first class. The actors all do a wonderful job. The production design is top notch. The creatures are FANTASTIC. Let me say this again, the creatures are FANTASTIC!
Go out and see this movie. I know I am going to see it again.
THE MIST - A MUST SEE MOVIE.

The movie is absolutely stunning... In the beginning. After the mist rolls in, the movie begins to get kinda iffy for my tastes. As with most horror movies, there's always a character that everyone hates and is like "Yes, finally!" when they die. Well, in this one it's a preachy lady, Mrs. Carmondy, who needed a good punch in the mouth the whole movie.
Anyways, the graphics are alright, not the best i've ever seen, but pretty good. The acting is a little... Well, it's alright.... Most of the characters I liked excpet for the one who just doesn't believe what the main characters say and the preachy lady. They make decisions where you just think, "Oh, that was extremely intellegent. Oh well, you're dead now because of your stupidity and you can't blame anyone else."
The plot is alright, but I personally absolutely despise the ending. It's rather bittersweet so to speak, but don't let it ruin the whole movie.
If you're a fan of horror movies, you'll probably like this one.

This has always been my favorite King story, a horror story that has both human and non-human villians. From what I have heard, Darabont is faithful to the novella up until the last five to ten minutes, when he tacks on a decidedly non-Hollywood ending that might shock fans of the story (such as myself). However, I will not let the ending ruin the rest of the film, which seems to have some pretty good FX, considering its modest budget. I've been waiting for over 20 years to have the story made into a movie, and there's no way I'm going to miss it.
