I think a lot of the general public will be surprised that this happens. And as some might have you believe on here, NOT ALL those that sign up are told about stop-loss. My husband joined 13 years ago, and not word one was said about that (granted, they weren't using it much 13 years ago). Yes, it is in the contract, but seriously, how many dumb 18 year old boys are reading the contract, ok? So yes, beingg stop-lossed can come as a surprise to some. And unlike some of the Marines on here (who have no clue about how the Army works), soldiers are getting screwed A LOT more then the Marines are..........so, their opinions are a bit short sighted. All in all a decent movie. Not quite all of what I espected, but good none the less. Worth seeing, but not missing the hype if you wait for the DVD.

I could not believe how many people talked about how unfair the government is or that they can do this to soldiers. The movie lies about what stop-loss is and how it works. You can't be sent back until you've had 12 months stateside. Also, the line in the movie about him fulfilling his contract and expecting the army to do the same is a lie. EVERY soldier's contract is no less than 8 years, the only change is how many years of active duty they want to go through. The contract also states that the army can stop-loss any soldier. I am a US soldier who just returned from Afghanistan and trust me, it's in there. Soldiers sign these do***ents willingly, nobody is forcing them to do it. I hate to use the word "propeganda" but I don't know how else to describe this movie...it lies to the public with no regard as to who it's hurting in the process: the soldiers. Those who are fighting for the freedom of the actors and director as they rake in their paychecks from this movie.

I was pleasantly surprised that, for once, a movie such as this actually met my expectations. I enjoyed it and would encourage others to see it. In addition, "Stop Loss" is definitely a movie for our generation, and I appreciated this.

Great Movie! I didn't realize this was happening to our soldiers. Serving their time in the armed forces to fight for our country, coming home, then having to be forced to go back. Not right at all. Ryan Phillippe is an excellent actor. He portrayed this character with such passion and heart. I really ached for him. I had tears throughout the movie. The supporting cast was great, too. I recommend everyone to watch this.

I've been in the army for 5 years, just as long as the current war has lasted, and "stop-loss" had never meant "go to a new unit and go directly to war." But that wasn't the 1st inaccuracy. The very beginning (trying not to give it away) was absolutely inaccurate. Instead of getting rewarded for all that, in real life the main actor would have gotten reprimanded and would have lost all his rank, and probably would have never led another soldier. As for what stop-loss really means, it is a system that stops a unit from losing you, whether you're going to a new unit or getting out or going to special training. This happens when a unit is getting ready to go to war usually. You can still get stopped lossed right when you get back from the fight, but that doesn't mean you're going right back. This movie gives the wrong message about what happens in the military. I hated it.
