I had the idea that while this film indeed borrows heavily from Mad Max, Escape From New York and 28 Days Later it would offer a fresh blend of the three. Sadly it is not. This falls directly into the category of "Check your brain at the door" action flick. Eypatch wearing Plissken, I mean remote cybernetic camera eye Eden Sinclair revels in being an anti-hero I suppose... it just never really comes out on screen. While Max offered a rather realistic vision of civil decline Doomsday slaps your intellect by showcasing an "end of the world" scenario in which those left in the quarantine zone want for NOTHING. Plenty of gas for their vehicles, tattoo parlors that must have stocked up in anti****tion of the end of civilization, plenty of water (for bathing obviously since almost NO ONE is covered in grime) and a crapload of hair gel. At the other end of the spectrum there is an INDESTRUCTIBLE Rolls Royce.. I mean damn... you can't ram a car into a bus w/out damage, right??

I enjoyed this movie. Just got back from seeing a midnight show of it. Of course it has the whole violence through military means, good ol' ugly sticks, and other fun and crazy nonsuch. The movie is very snap-snap, or in other words, it flows along quickly and hastily. The movie was entertaining, with a few quirks and giggles here and there. There are many cliche's in the movie, but they're not so blatantly blatant leaving u wondering if u should get ur money back. The movie moves quick enough to barely touch on these. Some good fight scenes, a lil' lil' bit of drama, mixed with a good deal of gore n' guts. Love that stuff. I found it satisfactory.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was a great way to spend some time relaxing after Easter; I took a couple friends along who hadn't been in a movie in a while, and also share my dry sense of humor, and we laughed through most of the movie. Gore turns us on! The lapse into medievalism with McDowell as scientist *** king was a bit much, and the editing on this segment could have been better; but, overall, it did lend a bit of credence to the movie considering it's locale. As for the title; since the movie is by the creators of the 28 days franchise, it's very apparent that there seems to be a film niche building here with viral contagion as the culprit. I applaud them for looking at the same movie theme in a different perspective. Doomsday seems to be a more streamlined, self-contained and better paced movie than it's predecessor; no drawn out introductions of characters ala Aliens or the aforementioned franchise. I'm looking forward to the sequels...Yes, there will be sequels!!

There's a new kickin' baddy across the Atlantic. Major Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra) will remind you of Snake from the minute you catch her in action. Neil Marshall's rendition of a virul apocolypse is well executed, packed with action and some slightly suspenseful thrills. There are some great one-liners and the fight scenes are pretty cool. Don't expect the movie to get nominated by the Academy, but these types never do. It's worth checking out, and the hour and 45 minutes go by quickly. It's a great no-brainer flick with all the favs: fights, car chase, witty English dialogue, and blood.

Doomsday is a great horror flick throw back stlye to the films of the 80s and 70s. I saw the flick last night at midnight and I must admit when Marshall has some big time bucks behind him this dude can create one hell of a ride for a viewer. This film had great special effects, good acting, and just over the top madness. I will say if severed heads are your thing then this is for you but if you like more Hollywood horror like the Grunge then stay at home cause this film brings the blood and guts from the opening scene till the closing at it is ****in wonderful.
