Storyline:
Nina (Portman) is a ballerina in a New York City ballet company whose life, like all those in her profession, is completely consumed with dance. She lives with her obsessive former ballerina mother Erica (Hershey) who exerts a suffocating control over her. When artistic director Thomas Leroy (Cassel) decides to replace prima ballerina Beth MacIntyre (Ryder) for the opening production of their new season, Swan Lake, Nina is his first choice. But Nina has competition: a new dancer, Lily (Kunis), who impresses Leroy as well. Swan Lake requires a dancer who can play both the White Swan with innocence and grace, and the Black Swan, who represents guile and sensuality. Nina fits the White Swan role perfectly but Lily is the personification of the Black Swan. As the two young dancers expand their rivalry into a twisted friendship, Nina begins to get more in touch with her dark side - a recklessness that threatens to destroy her.

Like Aronofsky's past films, Black Swan is visually stunning and intellectually stimulating. It's sometimes unsubtle in its imagery, and the dialogue can be a little stilted, but it has some real surprises for you. The final 15 minutes is amazing; it's the kind of thing where you want to talk it over with friends, but you have to struggle to come up with appropriate descriptive language. My date for the evening demanded a stiff drink afterwards, to settle her nerves. All in all, a fun night out.

Black Swan is porn. Don't expect to be entertained. Natalie P. as the premier ballerina, masturbates in the presence of her mother, she then has a full on close up focus girl going down on her scene, that belongs in the XXX genre. Don't go.

I have very mixed feelings about this movie. On one hand it was a brilliant performance by Natalie Portman as the Swan Queen striving for perfection. Her good persona couldn't co-exist with the evil one, sending her over the edge. On the other hand the story itself was it's main source of conflict. Very hard to follow with poor development of minor, but critical players to the storyline. It will probably get Natalie Portman a Golden Globe or an Oscar, but the overall tone of the movie was somewhat disturbing because of the poor character development. I walked away feeling like on one hand I had see a great psychological study of Nina and on the other hand feeling a bit like I'd been robbed.

bloody, violent, gore, disturbing and very little ballet. natalie portman runs about with a look of sheer terror on her face the entire time. disappointing movie, wanted my money back. cannot believe it's nominated for so many awards. would give nighmares to most.

Natalie Portman was good, but her performance was overshadowed by the grotesque! Hollywood stoops lower and lower to the point the audience is left feeling dirty and in need of a shower to wash away the filth. When will movies be made to leave us better than when we entered the theater? Never again will I listen to critic reviews!!
