Sharkwater - The Story "An eye-opening film...visually stunning... this movie will change the way you see our oceans." - Bonnie Laufer, Tribute Magazine For filmmaker Rob Stewart, exploring sharks began as an underwater adventure. What it turned into was a beautiful and dangerous life journey into the balance of life on earth. Driven by passion fed from a life-long fascination with sharks, Stewart debunks historical stereotypes and media depictions of sharks as bloodthirsty, man-eating monsters and reveals the reality of sharks as pillars in the evolution of the seas. Filmed in visually stunning, high definition video, Sharkwater takes you into the most shark rich waters of the world, exposing the exploitation and corruption surrounding the world's shark populations in the marine reserves of Cocos Island, Costa Rica and the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador. I don't do documentaries - BUT this movie was engaging, dramatic, inspiring and unexpected. A group of us saw it in Florida before it opened nationally.
There was a diverse group of people in that theater including seniors, familiies, teenagers and an 8 year old who was truly moved to action by this film.
I too was moved to action. - I am not an activist or lobiest or environmentalist - BUT again - fabulous film - I have been telling everyone to go see it!

I am a 7th grade science teacher in Florida. I recently put together a variety of lessons and an assembly about sharks. The lessons coincided with the release of Rob Stewart's, my guest speaker, breath-taking documentary "Sharkwater." Stewart, has spent the past five years filming sharks, and documenting the horrific events that are threatening the future existence of these incredible creatures. Most would find this treatment and slaughter impossible to fathom, but Stewart's footage and personal account of his treacherous journey around the world opens even the most naive eyes to what is happening around us. I have never seen a movie that has made such and inpact on me. I think that this documentary needs to be viewed by all who care about the ocean. This movie opened my eyes to what we are doing to the Earth, to the oceans and to its animals. Ignorance is no longer a reason to not know whats going on. It's time to make a difference - see this movie and be education and inspired.
