Brad Pitt plays a sentimental killer who can't off anyone he knows. Those he doesn't know, he likes to kill from a distance, when they least expect it, which he refers to as killing them "softly". That's not a bad setup, but the execution of the rest of the story is messy. There's a heist by two idiotic junkies that's good for a chuckle, and nothing more. Ray Liotta gets beaten to a pulp, but we never really get to know his character. That was a waste of a great talent. Pitt's character is in total control of his emotions and seems to live for the kill. Too bad his character is not likable and we never get to care about him. One thing I will say about this movie, it has some truly great classic American cars. See it if you're in the mood for a story involving contract killings, two-bit criminals, and a very amusing James Gandolfini playing a character that's similar to Tony Soprano when he was into prostitutes and drinking like a fish.

No way to put a good spin on it - "Killing Them Softly" is just plain bad. Pretentious and dull, this movie thinks it is far better than it is. Not sure why the critics are raving about it. About halfway through, I was thinking I would have rather just gone to bed early to catch up on my sleep, and it never got better. Oh well, at least the popcorn was decent.

Well, I've never reviewed a movie and this is my first so I just have to say I'd rather sit through the entire Twilight saga than see this single movie again. It has direct "in your face" Pro-Obama propaganda that will just not go away. Even if I WAS an Obama supporter this movie does not have any closure nor do you get to find out what happens to half the characters they introduce during the film. This is more like just a meander through mind of drug addict than a complete work of cinematography. There is no story to follow, it is SO SLOW to the point that the only person who gave the movie any credibility was Ray Liotta. I have never once asked for my money back during a movie but I demanded to see a manager afterwards so it's escalating to the corporate level now. I know it only cost $20 but that's $20 I feel like Obama stole from me. Obama already takes enough of my money so I was duped and confounded by this film. Do not spend any money nor rent it on Redbox.
