Storyline:
This is the true story of Oscar, a 22-year-old Bay Area resident who wakes up on the morning of December 31, 2008 and feels something in the air. Not sure what it is, he takes it as a sign to get a head start on his resolutions: being a better son to his mother, whose birthday falls on New Year's Eve, being a better partner to his girlfriend, who he hasn't been completely honest with as of late, and being a better father to T, their beautiful 4 year old daughter. He starts out well, but as the day goes on, he realizes that change is not going to come easy. He crosses paths with friends, family, and strangers, each exchange showing us that there is much more to Oscar than meets the eye. But it would be his final encounter of the day, with police officers at the Fruitvale BART station that would shake the Bay Area to its very core, and cause the entire nation to be witnesses to the story of Oscar Grant.

This power film is visually and humanly compelling The acting and directing are outstanding. The characterization of the leading character is beautifully played, and the supporting actors are all very good. It is powerful--and unfortunately, a film for the moment.

A gripping, well produced and directed movie that presents a more complete perspective of Oscar Grant's life during his last 24 hrs. Yes, some is fictionalized to make a point and much is based on truths substantiated by texts, interviews, testimony, etc. If you have only read the news clips, scanned twitter and seen the ratings-driven news coverage, then you should see this movie for another perspective on what motivated this young man, what conflicts troubled him, what blessings elevated him... what his life may have been like before he was "accidentally" executed. Meserle supporters may not like my comments or this movie because it is hard to allow your heart-strings to be pulled so strongly while myopically trying to support the actions of an executioner. The movie gives VALUE to the life a a troubled man, an African American troubled man. Something the media and much of America quite often does not do. Let those of us who believe in this value celebrate, express and share it

Fruitvale Station...Excellent. I found the movie to be very good and a glance into the life of many African American males. I see my son as well many other young AA males. The fact that it is a true account of one of thousand AA males is not surprising to me. It made me cry uncontrollably because it shows how little value the judicial system places on Our AA males lives. I hope the black and white youth look at this movie and act accordingly to change their ways and mind sets about who is policing us all and what the difference means to all of us a people in the great United States of American.

If your family, friends, co-workers, church or synagogue members need a conversation starter on race in America and the painful plight of African American boys and men (and their loved ones), urge them to see this movie. Though it will tear at your soul it may deepen appreciation for the need to find a way forward to help our society heal the festering racial divisions that threaten to weaken us all.

See this movie. The script and directing are top-notch, and if there's any justice Octavia Spencer and Michael B Jordan will be Oscar nominees come award season.
