I have a love/hate relationship with zombie movies. I love to see them, but I hate zobmies. This movie was extremely painful to watch. Usually in a horror movie there is at least one character you would like to live throughout the entire movie. I spent the movie wishing for ALL the characters to die. There was no character develpoment and the dialouge was TERRIBLE. However, beyond all that the zombies were wrong. They moved quickly, they were a little smart. One was smart enough to move back a curtain before walking into the room. And one jumped on someone. ZOMBIES DO NOT JUMP! Also as far a I knew zombies are pretty strong.. not these zombies. These zombies were smart but weak. By far the worst "of the Dead" movie I have seen. This wasn't a George A. Romero movie, at least it wasn't to his standard. Don't bother seeing this movie, just stay home and rent "Dawn of the Dead" that was funny and smart oh and the zombies were done correctly.

If you are looking for the simple horror of a zombie flick. Then the suspense and action of Diary is better than Land of the Dead, but not as good as Romero's Dawn of the Dead. If you take the time to understand the true horror of the movie; the reflection of what we value, where we have become as a society and the truths about humanity, then you can really appreciate a deeper message besides the "run for your life" motivation. It doesn't matter if the world is falling apart from zombies, war, disease. It's more about obsession; our need for visual stimulation and how dependent we've become on using various media to communicate. Dawn of the Dead scared me, this one made me think of how scary life has become. Loved it. The actors were new, raw and didn't make the usual ego trips of new actors trying to make a name for themselves. They just tried to be the character, and that made the movie both entertaining and acceptable....for a zombie flick, they did great.

If you are a Romero fan, you will not be disappointed. You can't go expecting a new, revolutionary spin on things, because that's not what you'll get. You will get a great film, especially for the genre. It is everything you would expect from Romero and more. Romero takes us back to the feel of Night of the Living Dead. The gore is terrifically done. It's beautiful and creative in the way it's presented. The acting has moments of total unbelievability, but does get better as the movie progresses. You also will have to suspend your disbelief a few times. Why does a random group of film students have a handgun with a seemingly unending supply of ammo? I'm sure you will find numerous things, but that's not the point of this film. Nor is the point to give you cheap scares. In true Romero fashion, the film makes you think more than scream. You will not be disappointed by the film style. It was very well done. If you love Romero with a small side of cheese, then this movie is a must see.

The zombie apocalpyse will not be televised. It'll be YouTubed and blogged. So says George Romero in his latest zombie nightmare, Diary of Dead. And he delivers his message with a cinematic punch to the gut. In Diary, Romero turns camcorder-style storytelling (Blair Witch Project, Cloverfield) toward the shambling undead with potent results. As the film progresses, the barely seen cameraman and eventually the camera itself, transform into a sinister presence. This underlying tension generates maximum psychological discomfort. The deranged script carries us into terrain where few mainstream zombie flicks would dare venture. Surprise suicides, matricide with a compound bow, a zombie aquarium, bad-*** Amish farmers and more. And, of course it's bristling with the staples of the genre including head shots, nasty bites and a cavalcade of slow-walking corpses. Die-hard Romero fans will savor picking up on the many references the director makes to his famous zombie oeuvre. 9 out of 10 stars.
