For three weeks in September, beer-fueled debates in the bars of one Michigan town aren't about sports and politics but art. Hundreds of thousands of people come to Grand Rapids to engage with blue-chip artists in ways that rarely happen at Art Basel or other established art events, unless you're a major collector or critic. More Art Upstairs follows four accomplished artists as they compete at ArtPrize, a populist experiment that inverts the equation of who gets to decide what art has value by letting the general public vote, via their phones, on which works will win much of the $500,000 in prize money - the largest award in the art world. Menashe, a widower, lives and works within the Hasidic community of Borough Park, Brooklyn. Australian sheep-man Morgan Lane comes to Montana looking for government-owned grazing land, and encamps his sheep at the boundary line (where the bad grazing ends and the good grazing begins) set up by the cattle barons to keep the sheep from nubbing away at the good grass. He goes to town, posing as a merchant, explains his Australian accent, and learns that Maria Singleton, owner of a large ranch, and Rodney Ackroyd (who never explains where he got his name), another ranch owner and Miss Singleton's fiancée, are the leaders of the cattlemen against the sheep-men. Romance tugs at Morgan and Miss Singleton, who quickly decides that Morgan has a much better name than Rodney (and other attributes) but the cattle-vs.-sheep feud keeps them apart. Until they meet in the street for a showdown gunfight following a disastrous clash between the cattle and sheep factions.
My Honor Was Loyalty (2016)
Untersharführer Ludwig Herckel (Leone Frisa), is a devoted and patriotic soldier of the elite 1st SS Panzer Division Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler. As the action begins, we follow a small group of experienced infantry soldiers in combat against Soviet forces. An explosion knocks Herschel unconscious and he wanders the woods in a daze. He is met by another soldier who happens to be from his same town back in Germany. This solder tells Herschel, in confidence, he worries about his wife as she is Jewish. When Herschel goes on leave back to Germany, he looks up the wife and finds the Gestapo attempting to arrest her. When she runs, a Gestapo officer shoots and kills her. Herschel is troubled by this act, but returns to his outfit anyway. Now posted to the western front, Herschel witnesses the decline of the army group, loss of comrades in arms, and multiple acts of war crimes in the handling of POW's for both sides.
