Best known as the creator of the TV series "Mr. Peepers" starring Wally Cox and for writing and directing the two films that made Hayley Mills a teenage star: Alle lieben Pollyanna (1960) and Die Vermählung ihrer Eltern geben bekannt (1961). Wrote comedy for radio. Began his career ushering at the Warner Brothers movie theater on Hollywood Boulevard and later joined the Disney organisation as an office boy, earning $15 a week. By 1938, he had worked his way up the ladder to assistant animator under Ward Kimball which entailed a $5 per week pay rise. He rejoined Disney after wartime service as writer/director.
