Darren was born in Parramatta, an outer suburb of Sydney Australia He attended a local performing arts High School in Sydney's north western suburbs, making his acting debut there in the title role of Hamlet! His screen debut was as a Drag Queen in the comedy short "Swag", before landing the supporting role of Doctor Pollack in the Australian independent docu-drama, Something About AJ (2002).

Since he was 15, Darren has played in numerous rock bands. His main instrument is bass guitar, tho he does play many other instruments. Three of the bands Darren has played in, "The Basic Fact", "Bent" and "Lament" received radio play while they were together. Darren has also filled in on bass guitar for Cassady Maddox, whom Darren has acted with on several films as well as directed on the film project "Rose".A distant relation of media magnate Rupert Murdoch.
