Storyline:
14 year-old Ellis (Tye Sheridan) lives on a makeshift houseboat on the banks of a river in Arkansas with his parents, Mary Lee (Sarah Paulson) and Senior (Ray McKinnon). He sneaks out early one morning to meet his best friend, Neckbone (Jacob Lofland). Neckbone, also 14, lives with his uncle, Galen (Michael Shannon), who makes a hardscrabble living diving for oysters. The two boys set out to an island on the Mississippi River, where Neckbone has discovered an unusual sight-a boat, suspended high in the trees, a remnant of an extreme flood some time in the past. They climb the tree and into the boat only to find fresh bread and fresh footprints. Realizing that they are not the only ones who have discovered the treehouse boat, they decide to leave. When they reach the shore, they find the same footprint in their boat. And that's when they meet Mud (Matthew McConaughey). Movie had good write ups. Showed how misguided dedicated love can mess you up sometimes. Not all women are alike apparently. Neat that the boys and this hide away guy bonded to get him off the island. Ended a bit strange but its a good movie.

Great acting by Mathew, and......the two boys!! It keeps you in suspense in all ways, and the boys were so challenging in resolving their desires to help "Mud". As far as "Reese", I won't go there! I think its ok for kids, too.

The story is really solid and each character sells it whole heartedly. The worst bad guys, the best good guys, and a unique setting on the Mississippi River and its forboding nature all keep you tuned in and waiting for the inevitable climax. Well done.

This is not a movie like so many that are casualties of talent, or studio production hamstrings that ultimately fall short of the creative ambitions and released as mere cinematic "efforts" - this is a movie that "achieves". The splendor of Jeff Nichol's immersive and captivating story of life's everyday heroes and villains that "come down the river" can not be missed.

For a plot that could easily have been a train wreck, Mud far exceeded expectations.
Mud takes a look into a brief, but pivotal moment in the life of Ellis, an innocent 14 year old living on the Mississippi river. This coming of age tale shows Ellis the gray area of adult life that exists between the black and white mentality of a child.
Mud's art direction and attention to detail are fantastic. This is is the first movie I've seen in a long time where someone hung up the phone with a "bye." A minor detail of something broken in one scene remains broken at the end of the movie.
The development of every character is excellent, and it's easy to identify and sympathize with all of them. Other than a bit of overly obvious foreshadowing and a few mud puddles the plot has to jump over, Mud is a solid movie that shows how the story is told is just as important as the story.
There is nothing during or after the credits
