Storyline:
In Rio de Janeiro, baby macaw, Blu, is captured by dealers and smuggled to the USA. While driving through Moose Lake, Minnesota, the truck that is transporting Blu accidentally drops Blu's box on the road. A girl, Linda, finds the bird and raises him with love. Fifteen years later, Blu is a domesticated and intelligent bird that does not fly and lives a comfortable life with bookshop owner Linda. Out of the blue, clumsy Brazilian ornithologist, Tulio, visits Linda and explains that Blu is the last male of his species, and he has a female called Jewel in Rio de Janeiro. He invites Linda to bring Blu to Rio so that he and Jewel can save their species. Linda travels with Blu and Tulio to Rio de Janeiro and they leave Blu and Jewel in a large cage in the institute where Tulio works. Rio was a great movie to see as a family. Shared a lot of laughs. Kids were ages 9 & 12 and seemed to like the movie from beginning to end.

I can't write enough good things about this movie, it was sweet, it was laugh out loud funny and it had shake your booty, dance in your chair, bob your head to the beat music that makes me want to download the whole soundtrack!
The movie had a very natural feel to it, the humor was right on and not forced laughs and everyone will get something different out of the jokes without cringing in embarrassment and hoping your kid didn't understand that (if you're a parent you know what I'm talking about!) So much fun! Really thinking about going to watch it again, enjoy!

I find it humorous that Jessie Eisenberg went from being Mark Zuckerburg to an animated talking blue macaw. In The Social Network, he plays a confident, no-nonsense character. In Rio, he plays the opposite, and he nails it. I found that I enjoyed both Rio and Rango in their own special ways. In Rango, my adult side that liked gritty tales, witty banter, and cracks that fly over the kids heads was satisfied. In Rio, my inner child that liked vibrant colors, euphoric adventure, and adorable characters in both charming scenes and action sequences was given its fill. I enjoyed it almost as much, if not as much, as I did Rango. Humor-wise, I chuckled a few times around the beginning, but it wasn't until Tracy Morgan's Luis character showed up that I released a few honest laughs. The entire thing plays out like a shot of manic energy right up until the ending. Kung Fu Panda 2 and Cars 2 seem to have some competition this year.

I really enjoyed this movie. It was funny and entertaining. I took my two young daughters and they enjoyed it as well. However, I am a very conservative Mom and for you other conservative parents out there, there were 3 things that were in this movie that will keep me from buying it:
1. The intense focus on the birds being romantic. In my opinion it's too much lovin' for elementary age children.
2. The repeated jokes of men in drag. It's funny, but I don't like the message it's sending.
3. The short scene of the birds in the underground dance/rave party. I do not want my children to think that this kind of fun they should be looking for.
Some people may deem these minor or picky, but I am very sensitive to the messages my young girls receive regarding love, sex, drugs or partying. I hope this review helps any other conservative parents and for those who are more liberal I do not mean to offend. These are just my personal preferences.
