Think back to your first cartoon - the one that set the whole ball rolling. Saturday mornings with The Flintstones or Popeye? Tuning in to Tom & Jerry or Rocky & Bullwinkle after school? Bambi, Bugs, Yogi, Mickey, Spongebob, Simba? Remember how effortless it was to embrace those cartoons, how natural it was for the characters, the very genre to become a part of who you were? Can anyone un-imagine Homer? Do we wonder *why* Whinnie the Pooh? "Rango" speaks to the essential childhood in each of us. It is not simply the character or the dialogue or the animation or the theme that distinguishes this movie as an instant animated classic for the ages - it is the mutual *embrace* with which we experience the film that stirs us. I felt it watching Avatar in IMAX, think of it with every "Frodo Lives!", know it with every Peanuts special, remember it with every classic clip I surf. Tonight, for father and son alike, "Rango" was the first cartoon of the rest of our lives.
