Are You Ready for Marriage? (1950)
Sue and Larry kiss passionately on her front porch one night; he asks her to marry him. The next day, they meet at the soda shop: she's glum, her parents refuse permission. Larry wants to elope; after all, they've been dating for three months, she's about to graduate from high school, and he has only two years left of college. They decide to visit Mr. Hall, the marriage counselor at a local church, to ask him to convince her parents. He walks them through Cupid's checklist: are your backgrounds similar, are you friends, do you understand marriage? Larry and Sue spend the summer living the checklist. Avós (2009)
Leo celebrates his tenth birthday. From one grandmother, he receives socks, from the other, underwear. From his Grandfather, Leo gets an old Super-8 camera and with it he tells us of his attempts to change the gifts. While doing that, he finds out that Monica Lewinsky is Jewish, that Clinton is the president of America, that the numbers in his grandparents arms are responsible for him being chubby and that this old camera is worthless.
The tale of a tragic love story set in Newfoundland. When illness takes the woman he loves, a simple man raises his voice in melancholy song as a last farewell. The film, based on a song by local musician Emile Benoit, is anchored in a beautiful, remote corner of the province, and pays homage to its land, sea and the harsh lives of the local fishermen.
