to your wish list?
Storyline:
Kate and John Coleman are rebuilding their troubled marriage. Kate had a drinking problem, but is in therapy and is doing well. She has been sober for one year. The couple decides to adopt a child. When they meet the nine-year-old Russian girl, Esther, at the St. Marina Orphanage, they immediately fall in love with the well-educated orphan. Their young son, Daniel, is hostile to his new sister; but their deaf-mute daughter, little Max, is enchanted with her - at first. Eventually, Kate begins to feel that Esther is manipulative and possibly even psychologically disturbed. John refuses to listen to his wife's misgivings, and the wounds in their marriage reopen. Kate calls Sister Abigail at the orphanage, and the nun informs her that Esther has a troubled and mysterious history. Kate delves further into Esther's past and discovers she is not at all who she pretends to be.

Recently, I attended the advance VIP press preview of this 123-minute 'horror'/thriller - and I was taken by surprise by how well-crafted the entire above-average production was.
What I like about ORPHAN?
1) Excellent directing - superb editing - great cast = good acting
2) Well-scripted plot that makes sense - and contributed to believable characters
3) Above-average good quality production
4) ...made me grip and squirm in my seat
5) ...the fact that there is nothing supernatural about Esther or the movie/story.
CAUTION: SPOILERS ALERT!!!
Esther murdered Sister Abigail with a hammer.
Esther murdered John by stabbing him multiple times.
Esther is actually a 33-year-old Estonian mental patient with physical/emotional/psychological development problems.
In the end, Kate killed Esther - a hard kick to the head snapping the neck.
ORPHAN is one of the better 'horror' movies to come along lately.
VERDICT:
Recommended.
NOT kids/family-friendly. R-rated.
GRADE: B-plus

Usually, I see horror films that are good, but not this one, Its amazing! The scenes with Esther on this movie made me feel that she is a showoff of something, like the revolver. She takes all but one bullet out of it and points the gun at Max: "Wanna play a game?" This movie is twisted, but its a must see! Nearly at the end will surprise you...I won't tell what it is... GO WATCH!!!

I liked "Orphan", but both the storyline and the father/husband were the two most annoying parts of the film.
"Orphan" is about a yuppie couple who adopt a nine-year-old Russian girl who is very smart and articulate for her age.
This nine-year-old girl was basically allowed to commit horrific acts throughout the movie and get away with it. The mother/wife had suspicions; however, she was at the mercy of a clueless father who kept doubting her every step of the way no matter how horrific each act was and he too had some issues himself such as his wandering eye, so he was no role model himself. What hurt the mother/wife's credibility was her past drinking problem and a years-ago accident that left her youngest child/daughter deaf. Another thing standing in the way was their two birth children so terrified of their new step-sibling they dare not say a bad word about her for fear of their lives.
The biggest plus for "Orphan" was the most original plot twist.

I was expecting another lame horror movie to just laugh at how bad it was. But after the pretty slow introduction, it just increasingly got me to the edge of my seat. It was by far one of the better scary movies I have seen in quite a long time.
The beginning is pretty slow and the ending is kind of lame, but don't judge it just on that. The middle of the movie was just amazing. Creepy. Scary. Thrilling. MUST GO!
Engrossing and scary too.
