this movie was just terrible. the story was poorly written and way to long. the funny parts weren't funny, the dramatic parts were tideous and drawn out. the characters weren't likable, they were foolish and annoying. i felt like i was watching a made for tv movie full of unknown actors not a major hollywood film with stars. i would never recommend this movie to anyone and i would never want to see it again.

You'd think with a cast like Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Paul Rudd and Jack Nicholson sharing the marquee, you'd have a reasonably entertaining movie. How Do You Know starts off somewhat prominising and Owen Wilson remains the only constant bright spot in this movie, delivering his lines with perfect comedic timing and touch. It's the other three on the marquee that fall flat. And the script. And the dialogue. Particularily in the case of Nicholson who play's Rudd's "scary" and "intimdating" father who's being investigated by the federal government for wire fraud. His delivery is so stiff and his hand mannerisms so akin to Lewis Black, that any number of veteran actors looking for a quick paycheck could have played the role (i.e. De Niro in the Fockers series). Witherspoon gives a game effort, but comes off as whiny and neurotic. There's zero chemistry between ANY of these actors and it all concludes in a flat and contrived conclusion that leaves us to figure out what happens next.

what do you get when you put a distinguished oscar winning director, an adorable oscar winning actress, an always reliable oscar winning actor, one of the most likeable actors of this generation, and an actor who usually has good comic timing skills...i'm not sure but you should have gotten it with "how do you know". the characters were way too complicated, and there was absolutely no chemistry between the 3 leads. plus the flow of the film felt more like it was forced. what the outcome we got was a film i would expect to see in an art house cinema with up and coming actors and director. not from a 100 million dollar budget movie, and all i can think was that more of that budget went toward the actors salaries, because you sure didn't see 100 million dollars on the screen. while it wasn't one star terrible, it was a two star disappointment.

HIlarious movie, loved it!! It was cute and sort of a chick flick but one man in the theater was cracking up throughout the movie. Definitely some enjoyable comedy moments which @ one point I couldn't stop laughing!! Seems appropriate for 13 or 14+. Worth you money, go see!!
