Storyline:
Tim Lippe (Helms) was the guy people always thought would go places but then he just ... didn't. He's been living in über-sleepy Brown Valley, Wisconsin his whole life, still "pre-engaged" to his 7th grade teacher Macy Vanderhei (Weaver), while selling insurance to protect other people's dreams. But now, Tim's stalled life is about to get a kick-start because, for the first time in his 34 years, he's headed to a "major" metropolis - Cedar Rapids, Iowa - where he must try to save his company at a do-or-die insurance convention that, for him, will be entirely unconventional. From the minute he checks into his hotel with his ancient American Tourister and cummerbund money belt, it's clear Tim has no idea how the modern world really works. He is soon smitten with seductive Nebraskan insurance agent Joan Ostrowski-Fox (Heche) and awed by his experienced roommates...

This may be John C. Reilly's best and most ridiculous performance ever. I was lucky enough to see a sneak preview and we all loved it. Two thumbs up.

This film is SO much better than the previews would lead you to believe. You think it's going to be "The Hangover" at an insurance convention but the raucous factor is far outweighed by the basic goodness of the characters.
Ed Helms plays Tim Lippe--a sweet and innocent insurance salesman. This is really a coming-of-age story, even though he's 34. The script was mostly ad libbed on set by the actors and John C. Reilly is hysterical! Sigourney Weaver is great and slightly disturbing as she mothers Tim, even though they are sleeping together. Even Anne Heche is likeable (I'm not a huge fan) because her character is genuine and human.
If you are squeamish about foul language or sexual references, be forewarned--there's plenty of it in this movie. But it fits the characters using it and show the world-as-it-is to someone who has never been outside his home town of Brown Valley, Wisconsin. It shows us that even people who are loud and obnoxious can have a heart.
I give it a B+.

I just saw this at the Sundance Film Festival today. I would put this up against any comedy that came out last year. Putting Ed Helms and John C. Reilly together is pure comedy genius! I would actually say the combination is better than Reilly and Will Farrel, so let's hope there's more to come with this duo. Allowing the actors to contribute to this film really allowed John, Ed, Sigourney, Anne and Isiah to prove they can make you laugh your *** off. This movie is not made up of just a few funny moments that barely make the fee of entry worth it...there's so many gut busting moments, it would be hard to count them on all toes, fingers and limbs. Go! It's worth it. I promise you!
