I remember watching The Hunger Games and thinking, wow, they did not stick with the source material and missing all the important stuff. Compared to Beautiful Creatures, that movie was a masterpiece. As a fan of the Castor Chronicles, I have to say DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE. If you loved the books, you will HATE this movie. I know no book to movie adaption will ever be like the book. But this movie didn't even have the essence that made Beautiful Creatures such a good book. The direction is awful. The script is HORRIBLE. Just. don't see this movie. These people don't deserve your money.

The screenwriter of Beautiful Creatures obviously didn't read the same source material as me. To say he took creative liberties is like saying Hurricane Katrina was only a minor disturbance in New Orleans' night life. There were scenes were I thought I had slept walked into a different movie. I left the theater certain that I had read the wrong book. Either that, or I was clearly intoxicated because I don't know what that was I just saw. Worst movie of 2013.

Beautiful Creatures = quite possibly the worst book to movie adaptation I've ever seen. It's as though writer/director Richard LaGravanese ate a box of Alphabits cereal and then just crapped out what he considered to be a movie script worth viewing. He ruined what could have been a great YA book adaptation for the big screen by cutting corners, cutting characters, thinning plot, and just making things up as he went along. Just as there is no way to unring a bell, there is unfortunately no way for me to unsee this movie. Deepest apologies to my friend, who I convinced go with me to see this drivel.

they changed some key elements to continue with sequels, which i think they sabotaged themselves for. it was slow-moving, lacked real concrete plot in comparison to the books. even twilight had a better screenplay conversion the first time around, but it may be just me. ive been looking forward to this movie ever since they started filming last year and i was just disappointed by the screenplay as a whole. if you didn't read the books, you will probably enjoy it. the plot is JUST okay for the lamen person.

...and maybe not even if you haven't. I really enjoyed the book, and with all the discrepancies between the story line and appearance of characters and such, I just couldn't get on board with the movie. How can I say this without spoiling? There is no Marian...Amma does her thing, as well as the job Marian has in the book...and in one of the first scenes, Ethan is cooking his own breakfast. If you've read the book, you know how disturbing that is. There were other HUGE elements of the story that were so mangled that I'm not sure it even makes sense any more. I really tried not to let these things bother me, and just when I'd moved past one and let it go and opened my mind back up to the movie, another cataclysmic rift would appear, and so it was downhill from the credits on. I wish I had better things to say about it...I love books, and nothing excites me more than a great book-based movie. This one missed the mark.
