Are you sure, you want to add The Brothers Bloom
to your wish list?
Storyline:
Brothers - older Stephen and three years junior Bloom - have been con artists since they were kids. Stephen is the mastermind, for who the intricacy of the story used in the con is as important as the positive outcome of the swindle. Bloom is the main character of Stephen's stories, the character he considers the anti-hero. As adults, they travel the world and never enlist the same people twice in their cons, except for their consistent sidekick, the mysterious and primarily silent Bang Bang, a Japanese woman who just appeared in their lives one day and who has a penchant for blowing things up. As Bloom hits his mid-thirties, he wants to quit the business as he is losing his own identity to that of the characters he portrays; he doesn't know anymore what is real and what is make-believe. Stephen talks him into one last con, the mark to be the eccentric, lonely but beautiful New Jersey heiress...

When I went to see The Brothers Bloom, I expected a funny, clever, and confusing (in an enjoyable way) plot. Unfortunately, it did not excel in those categories like "The Prestige" did. The overall story was too soft, almost like a PG love story with little suspense. The way Rachel Weisz acted sometimes was too unbelievable for her character. Since the story is about con men, I expected more tricks, and more clever schemes. The plot twisted too many times. The Brothers Bloom did succeed in editing, however. It was clever how they jumped seamlessly from past to present to explain the situation. There could have been more turns in Bloom and Penelope's relationship, which was pretty boring. This isn't really a date movie, for the love is too straight forward with no real development. It's more about brotherly love, because the brothers keep you guessing. Although it's cute in a sense, it's not really for kids. With a lack of humor, romance, and cons, this falls in so-so.

Disappointing use of terrific actors! Everyone moped out of the theater. We'd spent time with people we never cared about. What a waste of time.

So Rian Johnson's follow up to Brick may not hold up to early summer blockbuster fare as the craptacular Wolverine or the highly entertaining Star Trek, but The Brothers Bloom is entertaining enough to keep you in your seat. Rachel Weisz' performance alone is worth the admission. Although the final act tends to go on a bit too long, it still manages to hold you long enough to wonder what ace The Brothers have up their sleeves. Mark Ruffalo needs more movies like this, rather than some awful romantic comedy. Go and support this wonderful flick before it gets driven outta theaters by Terminator.

I loved the movie, thought it was funny and quirky. Love the actors in it,Adrien Brody is terrific ,as always a favorite,Mark Ruffalo is very good too as his brother.. Rachael Weitz is hysterical as an eccentric millionaire doing crazy things. All in All I liked the movie very much.
