This is 40 is a great movie, it offers a multi scene, multi approach to the issues facing life at 40. While it was marketed as the sequel to the move "Knocked Up" there seems to be no real connection other than the cast.
Over all the move was great and offered rich emotional and comedic insight into the challenges of aging.
Geek Soul Brother
Apatow does his thing again! He makes a comedy out of an introspective story about real people. If you are married and in your 40s, or even close to it, you will probably get more of a snapshot of your life than laughs. It was funny at times, but not drop dead funny. Melissa McCarthy was hilarious as always though. The good part was that Rudd and Mann give believable performances as the married couple from KNOCKED-UP that are still trying to figure themselves out in this phase of life - with kids, mortgages, careers and sex. The problems they had were things an audience could connect to.They could have cut 10 minutes off the film to move it along quicker though. Still, I enjoyed the ups and downs, and the reconciliations the characters had to go through. It may not hit the funny bone like you thought walking in, but it will make you feel something walking out. Don't miss the outtakes. Geek Soul Brother gives this film 3 out of 5 Cosmic Afros. By the end of this movie, this couple of new 40s when from mildly likeable to loathesome, self-indulgent and boring. This is partly the result of of the fact that the movie is REALLY REALLY LONG and nothing happens--It's just one grown up tantrum after another. As much as I usually like Apatow movies (and Paul Rudd) this attempt to be, I guess, poignant was not good. The only bright spot was Albert Brooks as Rudd's character's unrepentantly flawed father.

Skip this movie. I kept thinking should I leave or will it get better. It never got better! If you've seen a few commercials or trailers you've already seen all the funny parts. The rest is just an anger filled movie with a wife yelling at the top of her lungs till the husband and kids who can't take it any longer join the anger party and start yelling too. I feel I was ripped off and want my money back.
Doctor Hose
A total waste of two hours. Those who gave positive review must have had one of those special cookies that Rudd was eating. This so-called comedy was written and although it sported a cast of stars, non of them had a chance to save this dog. The only bright spot was the younger daughter who was charming. The rest was s mostly dysfunctional family and a whole lot of cussing. Apatow gets an F on this one.
