This movie was part Tangled, part Brother Bear, part How to Train a Dragon. The storyline is not original. It was the red mane of curly hair and visuals that stole the show. My 13-yr-old daughter didn't like it and my 8-yr-old son didn't talk about the movie afterward which is very telling.

Everyone loved this movie, from my husband to my youngest babe. The story was original, it looked amazing. There was just enough magic to make the story but the story wasn't bout magic but abut healing with understanding. It was awesome, take the WHOLE family. I love to guess what's going to happen next and like to be surprised when I'm wrong! This movie offered a few surprises that I would never have guessed that actually made the movie more enjoyable for us older viewers (50's).

This was much more a Disney film than a Pixar film. While the animation was beautiful, there was nothing original or daring about the script. It was your standard kiddie film with a happy ending and very little imagination along the way. I think of the long, beautiful opening of Wall-E or the montage in Up or the terrifying and beautiful moment when the toys almost went into the incinerator in Toy Story 3, and that makes this film look all the more weak in comparison. My twin 9-year olds certainly enjoyed it, but in the same "thanks for some killing some time" way they enjoyed Ice Age, for instance. I can tell when they're blown away, moved, inspired -- this film didn't do it. Kids can handle so much more than Disney offers them these days, and Pixar used to be the antidote. Time to go rent some Miyazaki films again.

From the trailers, I was expecting the entire movie to be about a young girl refusing to be betrothed and possibly going up against a legendary bear. It is so much more than that!! I'm so happy that the previews left out such an important part of the story line and that we were all genuinely surprised by how much more there was to this movie! Moms must take their kids to this movie. It is one of few Disney movies where the mom plays a positive role in the child's life.It is definitely PG for a reason. Pretty violent for really little ones. The acting was spot on and the animation looked so real in parts. The scenery is amazing, so be sure to see it on the big screen. You'll be glad you did!
