Storyline:
Rose Hathaway is a dhampir, half-vampire and half-human, who is training to be a guardian at St Vladimir's Academy along with many others like her. There are good and bad vampires in their world: Moroi, who co-exist peacefully among the humans and only take blood from donors, and also possess the ability to control one of the four elements - water, earth, fire or air; and Strigoi, blood-sucking, evil vampires who drink to kill. Rose and other dhampir guardians are trained to protect Moroi and kill Strigoi throughout their education. Along with her best friend, Princess Vasilisa Dragomir, a Moroi and the last of her line, with whom she has a nigh unbreakable bond, Rose must run away from St Vladimir's, in order to protect Lissa from those who wish to harm the princess and use her for their own means.

Usually when a book is translated to a movie the team takes creative liberties with the story.
That is NOT the case with Vampire Academy. The film follows the book closely, changing and rearranging minor details here and there. The different and unique vampire breeds are all introduced early on in a fun and creative way.
The trailers emphasize the humor in the film, and humorous it is. Rose is known for her witty sarcasm. But the action scenes are awesome as well.
My favorite thing about the movie was the way they portrayed Rose when she would get sucked into Lissa's head thanks to their spirit bond. It was very cool and effective.
The cast were amazing, hitting the nail on the head with each performance. Rose was the perfect combo of funny and tough, Lissa was oh so regal, Natalie was hilariously nerdy, Mia was a big bully but the actress brought real emotion to the role. Dimitri and Christian were great as well.
This is a MUST see!

Loved it! Followed books almost to a 'T'. If you haven't seen it yet I really recommend!!
I just went to see this today( 2-7-14 ) and I honestly have to say that I was totally pleased with the film making. I read all the books, several times, and the actors fit the characters. Very few things were changed from book to screen which was GREAT!
GO SEE THIS MOVIE!! A++++

I am an avid reader and have seen many of my favorite books turned into movies. And this is by far my favorite one. It was really close to the book, and the changes they made fit in really well. I was a little worried when some of the casting was announced but it was clear the the actors truly understood the characters. Don't be fooled by the trailer and poster, the film retained all of the darker aspects from the book.

When I heard this book was going to be a movie I was beyond excited. I love the Vampire Academy Series. After I saw the first trailer I became very nervous, afraid that they went and ruined a great book series. Never fear, the trailer did not do the movie any justice and I was surprisingly happy with how it turned out. The portrayal of the characters for the most part were true to the books with an added sarcastic tone. Dimitri and rose were also perfect. I hope they continue with the series.

I haven't ready any of the books so I am a novice to this story. This may color my judgement but I have to say that I loved this movie. What I loved most was the humor along with the narration the Rose Hathaway character. However, I did find the Lissa Character slightly annoying.
One of the best things I can say about this film is the way it flowed; bad movies seem to just drag on and this was the complete opposite of that. In fact, when the movie came to a close I was sad because I wanted it to keep going.
I hope it does well and they do sequels....I'll be the first in line to see them.
Oh, and Zoey Deutch lights up the screen. Wonderful actress.
