I enjoyed the movie, so did my 4 year old, and my wife. We rarely all enjoy the same movie.
I find the "it wasn't real enough" criticism silly. It is not suppose to be real. It's OK to feel like your in the fray between comic book, cartoon, and the "real" world while watching this movie. In fact, I think that was the whole point. In that sense, I think this movie is the TRON of my generation.
The truth is, if you are one of those that is STILL upset because Matrix 2 & 3 didn't meet your expectations, don't go. But for most normal people who just want to see something different and fun, go.

It's actually really good. I enjoyed it as an art piece. It is really different from anything else I've seen. I love the way it is edited the characters and props swiping the screen. It's really unique. You'll need to put on your fantasy cap. Isn't that what we want though? To be a part of a fantasy on the screen? I watched it and enjoyed it as I would a piece of art on exhibit.

They tried too hard to make the movie apeal to a broad audience. They could have made a really good kids movie. They could have made a movie for the teen agers. Instead, it failed at being any good for anybody.
The violence was too much for my grandchildren and their mother. They had to leave the theater because to the language, violence and generally dispicable characters portrayed in the movie. My girls grew up with Speed Racer on TV, but it was a much more wholesome show. The beatings and shootings that were included in the movie version were uncalled for.
If they wanted to make it for a more mature audience, they would need better acting, better character development and more believable plots, characters, etc.
For kids: it was totally inapprpriate.
For teenagers: it sucked.
For adults: it was a total waste of time.

This movie is NOT appropriate for a young child. The reviews are INCORRECT in saying there is SOME violence. This movie contains ALOT of violence for a child and is even frightening. In fact, a scared 6 year old boy sitting next to us had to leave the theater and my 8 year old son asked at one point if we could leave. This strange movie also contains some cursing, one inappropriate hand gesture and plenty of sex kitten type females. The storyline can be hard to follow for some children though my son did understand it. This movie should be rated PG13 instead of PG. My advice to any parent is wait until this movie comes out on DVD and view it first before allowing your young children to see it.

[From an advance screening:] This is basically an extended live-action CARTOON (reprising elements of the animated TV series from the late ?60?s). EMILE HIRSCH plays the sometimes-conflicted grown-up version of Mr. Speed Racer, who has to fight inner and outer demons in deciding how to handle offers to compete for rich racing moguls. JOHN GOODMAN and SUSAN SARANDON play his parents, and MATTHEW FOX plays his mentor ?Racer X?. For the audience I was with (including a lot of kids), most of the laughs in the film came from actions by a pet chimpanzee. The film (by the Wachowski Brothers) is expectedly superficial, with a story-line that?s elemental-- but, it boasts a riot of colorful and impressive CGI effects to go along with set designs done in appropriate cartoon-like exaggerated color. It?s not a great film by any means-- but, it?s FUN in a lighthearted, action-filled way (cleverly calculated to encourage a hoped-for series of Sequels). I enjoyed it, & you probably will too.
