Storyline:
The powerful superhero John Hancock has become a joke because of his alcoholism and clumsiness. He has also become the most hated man in Los Angeles. Though he has saved many lives, he also destroyed a lot of property, costing the city millions every time he goes into action. When he saves the life of PR expert Ray Embrey from an oncoming train, the executive is thankful and believes he can restore Hancock's image as a true superhero. He brings the anti-hero home for dinner and introduces him to his son Aaron, a big fan, and to his wife, Mary. But for some mysterious reason Mary doesn't want Hancock anywhere near her or her family.

saw Hancock at a screening last night. I am not a fan of super hero movies at all, but I might say that this one had something different. It is a very fun movie to watch, well directed and a very good performance by will smith. It does not fall into my favorite 50 but definitely is a painless and enjoyable experience. If you think your kids will love any super hero, then don't bring them. It seems obvious that a movie about a seriously depressed alcoholic and self centered super hero is not apropiate for kids to me, but it didn't seem that way at the show, with a room filled with dads and their kids. What a wonderful and funny premise for a movie! Superhero who doesn't give a crap, has low self-esteem, and causes more damage than his super powers create relief. And although Will Smith is a talented actor, the script falls apart faster than Hancock can save it. Don't get me wrong, there are some funny parts and then there are some serious parts. That is, unfortunately the problem. The film can't decide if it's a comedy or if it's a drama. The understory tries to answers all the questions the character's presence conjures up, unfortunately it's just a little too neat and tidy. The convenience of the secret character's proximity to Hancock is poorly thought out and it just makes the second half of the film drag - which is really bad for a film that doesn't reach 100 minutes. This is a great rental film, an "I'm bored and have nothing else to do." film (at matinee prices), or an "I'm a huge Will Smith fan and I gotta see it!" film. Just don't expect too much going in and it will be OK.

I saw Hancock on the 4th of July and wasn't disappointed. It wasn't exactly like seeing Casablanca, and I was definitely entertained. I thought that overall the actors did a "good job" and that the story was interesting. The explanation of Hancock's powers took me by surprise. A couple of people have suggested to me that they are setting up the movie for a sequel and/or prequel, and I could see that happening. There is some language, which might upset parents with younger children, even though ironically some of the language is delivered by younger children and there's plenty of violence, although very little blood. I thought that the ending (except for one "big" thing) was fairly predictable, and that's okay. I think that this was a movie where the producers wanted the audience to have an overall positive experience. To me, this is one of those movies I'm glad I saw, that I won't buy on DVD, and that I will watch if its on TV.

Will Smith is the King of summer blockbusters......Some may be corny but that all deliver just what we need for the summer. That Will Smith Humor and the right amount of action that everyone can enjoy

Went to see this at a private screeing and all I can say is WOW! it had twists and turns which made it very entertaining. Will Smith was again at his best. Haven't seen or heard much from Charlize but what a great return. Her part alone made Hancock very entertaining. Great Job by all the cast! I think Peter Berg was at the Las Vegas screener. Great directing job, Peter! It a must see this summer.
