Are you sure, you want to add Soul Men
to your wish list?
Storyline:
When R&B legend Marcus Hooks dies suddenly, VH-1 invites his original back up duo, Floyd Henderson and Louis Hinds, "The Real Deal," to appear at a memorial tribute at the Apollo Theater. Floyd, who's bored in retirement, wants this more than anything; Louis, a philosophical ex-con, does not. Plus, there's bad blood between them (Louis's wife Odetta left him to marry Floyd - then left Floyd). Floyd begs, Louis consents but won't fly, so they leave L.A. in Floyd's flashy Cadillac with five days to get to New York. On the road, they must get back their vocal chops, renew their friendship, and sort out the past. With Floyd's bad hip and Louis's bad kidneys, will they even make it?

This movie was truly excellent! I laughed the entire time. Bernie Mac and Issac Hayes are truly missed. Great job on the last effort. There were a couple slow spots, but well worth it. I am going to see it again.

This movie was absolutely a MUST SEE - that is - if you want to laugh and just enjoy a couple of hours. Bernie Mac is a fool, cant get enuff of his funny stuff - and dont leave when the credits go on - the bloopers are great - and after one scene, when the cameras stop shooting the movie scene Bernie Mac goes into a comedy routine that is hilarious. Anyone who remembers the late sixties and the SEVENTIES (best decade of all) you will love this movie. Dont wait for it to come on cable - take a couple of hours and go get some humor therapy.

It was a wonderfully entertaining film. Bernie Mack and Samuel Jackson delivered with believable performances.. Only the jailbreak was unbelievable, but overall a good movie.

I've became a Bernie Mac fan long before the Original Kings of Comedy. I'm 28 now and can remember staying up late as a young girl to watch his show on HBO (sneaking of course just like my parent's generation would sneak and listen to Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx records. And though I will miss him dearly I was disappointed in the content of this film. It's definitely NOT for children and even some adults. Every other word was an F-bomb and sexual content was really explicit. What got me though were the final takes shown as the credits rolled. Now that's the Bernie Mac I want to remember!

Samuel L. Jackson and (the late)Bernie Mac totally clinched the comedic aspects of this fun ENTERTAINING hilarious verbally-VULGAR and sexually-graphic(some scenes) movie.
It was so much fun watching their chemistry throughout the movie - you can tell that they had A BLAST filming it together.
The plot was thin but the two stars' acting/comedic-talents and more-than-ok singing abilities were enough to carry the entire movie. It's refreshing to see the 'lighter' side of Samuel L. Jackson - he was so FUNNY!
The end credits is worth staying for - Bernie Mac's interview was hilarious.
Kudos to the supporting cast for a job well done - helping to supply more laughs.
This movie received a resounding applause from the advance press screening audience.
VERDICT:
HIGHLY recommended for all fans of Samuel L. Jackson, Bernie Mac, (the late)Isaac Lee Hayes Jr.
Due to the mature/sexually-graphic content and vulgar language, SOUL MEN is not appropriate for children/kids/youths.
