Born in Switzerland, with German, Swiss and Italian ancestors, Silvia Crastan trained from age 7 as a Violinist/Musician and performed as a freelance musician and with her sister Eva Crastan (Piano) for 20 years before embarking on an acting career. Her father Valentin Crastan is an engineer and book author(Elektrische Energieversorgung 1,2 and 3)and her German mother was working as a chief secretary at Brown Boweri. Silvia was educated at Biel/Bienne Grammar School, but happily left it, age 17, to study with Violinist Nicolas Chumachenco, Israeli Alexander technique teacher Noam Renen and Pianist Daniel Hoexter. In 1999, after a few years working as a freelance orchestra musician and recitalist in Switzerland she then went on to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London, having won a bursary from Dienemann Stiftung (Luzern). Even though studying at the Music department, she made there the first acquaintances with the London acting scene and had the chance to see the student productions of the Drama department. She worked on a TIE show for about 2 years in 2002/2003 and started also teaching violin students for ABRSM Violin Grade Exams. The shock of the death of her best friend and partner in 2008 brought quite a drastic change to her life, after about 2 year of depressions, doing almost nothing and an awkward 6 month Violin teaching job in East Jerusalem (Palestine) she took the decision to embark now fully on an acting career in London. Silvia began working as a supporting actress on several feature films such as Jack Ryan, The world's End, Cuban Fury, About Time, James Bond, Dark Shadows, Snow White and the Huntsman, The Dark Knight Rises, Tezz etc..and on TV series such as Holby City, Bletchley Circle, Black Mirror, Midnight Beast and the Politician's Husband. She got her first featured role in 2011 in the short silent movie "Boundless Maze" by Chul Woo Aaron Cho, then appeared as "Miss Delaney" in Alize Speed's "Skeleton Key", followed by 7 other roles in short films and the role of an investigator, next to Lamin Tamba and London Baba in the Nantha Thurai Tamil feature film "A 1000 dreams". Silvia appears also with Phoenix James in the genero tv award nominated music video "child" by Richard Paris Wilson and worked together on a vintage still photo shot with Ken Smart, who has won the 2012 BEFFTA best black actor award . a memorable event was also working with Alistair Morrison on a photo project. She is training at Central School of Speech and Drama at the moment and was one of the dancers in the London 2012 Paralympic Opening Ceremony. Silvia was always a great fan of Fellini's movies, Alan Delon's gangster roles, James Bond and British Comedies like Bridget Jones Diary and Hot Fuzz. She was happy working recently on the new Edgar Wright film "the world's end", meeting the funny duo Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. Recently she started working on a short fantasy movie, creating her own characters and storyboard. The plan is to film it in the Swiss mountains, involving her beautiful nephews and niece.
