Mark was born in Horne, Surrey to farmer and amateur entertainer Bernard Kempner, and former land-girl Mary Kempner. He went to the Michael Hall school but as he wasn't made to work hard, he didn't gain a single O-Level. Instead of working Mark entertained his classmates, going as far as to drive the headmaster's car in to a ditch when he was 15. Mark worked on the family farm until meeting wife Anna at 18. They married in 1982. Mark fitted amateur theatre around his work as a maintenance engineer at Gatwick airport. He played parts such as Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls (who was played by another of Mark's idols in the film version, Frank Sinatra ) and Fagin in the play version of Oliver Twist. Mark worked on a Kibutz in Israel for a year and in that time, started up a touring drama group. Mark gave up his engineering job to become a professional actor in 1992 In 1996 Mark took over the development of TrueView Events providing murder mysteries and other corporate entertainment and team building events. It has since become one of the country's premium team building companies. In between running the company, Mark has had many parts in adverts and TV programmes (notably as the professor in Starburst ads and as a dodgy car salesman in the Iceland ads) and in Tv dramas such as The Bill, Hobly City, and Eastenders.
