Polly Teale is an award -winning theatre practitioner. She has been joint artistic director of the theatre company Shared Experience since 1995. As well as her work with Shared Experience, she has directed across the UK. In the 1980s she authored a number of original plays and stage adaptations. She has found particular acclaim creating works relating to 'Charlotte Bronte' - her seminal 1997 adaptation of Bronte's novel "Jane Eyre" was followed by an adaptation of Jean Rhys 's "Wide Sargasso Sea" (a prequel to "Jane Eyre") in 2003, and "Bronte" a play exploring the lives of Charlotte and her family in 2005. She has a daughter Eden (born c. 2000) with her husband Ian Rickson .
She won the Sydney Edwards Award for Best Director and was nominated for a 2003 London Evening Standard Theatre Award for Best Play for "After Mrs Rochester" performed at the Duke of York's Theatre.
