God and Satan war over earth; to settle things, they wager on the soul of Faust, a learned and prayerful alchemist. The story of unfortunate lovers Heathcliff and Cathy who, despite a deep affection for one another, are forced by circumstance and prejudice to live their apart. Heathcliff and Cathy first meet as children when her father brings the abandoned boy to live with them. When the old man dies several years later Cathy's brother, now the master of the estate, turns Heathcliff out forcing him to live with the servants and working as a stable boy. The barrier of class comes between them and she eventually marries a rich neighbor, Mr. Edgar Linton, at which point Heathcliff disappears. He returns several years later, now a rich man but little can be done.

Luther Meek, a young, goofy citizen of a small town, foils the manager of a stranded theatrical troupe from robbing the local bank and escaping with the loot, and wins the hand of the troupe's fair leading-lady in the process.

Good-natured troublemaker "Cyclone" Tom Saunders is hired by a ranchers' association manager to investigate recent cattle rustling at one of their ranches and to see if a pair of nesters have anything to do with it. When things get hot for them in the city, gang boss Mack takes his men west to run their protection racket scheme. The FBI sends Bob Blake to investigate and he finds trouble on the Hess ranch. Touring the ranch he finds the gangsters shooting cattle. He trails them to their hideout only to be caught and made a prisoner.

Red Mathews and his gang are out to stop the railroad from coming to Coyote Gulch. When gunslinger Thunderbolt arrives in town, Banker Wingate tries to get him to take the job of kicking the gang out of town. Attracted to Judy Lane he accepts. He Succeeds once but is then captured just as the gang rides to town to break up the ceremony honoring the railroad president.
